A superb blue and white check tablecloth dated 1926. An ideal cloth for a refectory or large rustic kitchen table as it measures a massive 104" x 66". The laundry marks showing in the photo (click to enlarge) read V A Watson 1926 Housemaid. A marvellous piece of history to add to a collection of early household linens, to use as originally intended, or to use for other projects if you can bear to cut into it! Depending on the size of your window, there could be enough fabric here to make a pair of curtains.

A pretty set of 6 napkins and 6 each of 12" and 6" circular placemats. The napkins measure 16" x 16½". The set is in excellent used condition with no holes, darns or fraying. However, 3 of the larger mats have feint brown marks which I imagine will fade with subsequent laundering although in my opinion they don't detract from the overall look of the set when displayed. I am selling the set as it came to me - washed, pressed and lightly starched, but with the marks as mentioned.

The embroidery is machine stitched and the set would make a bright addition to a late summer  al fresco meal.

A fine lawn white-on-white punchwork afternoon tea cloth measuring 32" x 34". Freshly laundered and sparkling white, ready for use, although there are 2 light brown storage marks which I'm sure will fade to insignificance with subsequent laundering. These are close to one edge and are not, in my opinion, detrimental to the overall effect.

Four beautifully worked designs radiate from a central circle of punchwork, with a similar design in each corner of the cloth.

A large ecru linen cloth with white hardanger embroidery and crochet/tatting edging. This super-size tablecloth measures 164" x 60"  or 13'8" x 5'0" (4.17 x 1.52 metres). Complimenting this huge banqueting cloth are 14 matching napkins measuring approximately 16" x 16" (40 x 40 cm).

The cloth is in excellent condition with no visible marks or stains.

Large linen damask tablecloth measuring 68" x 86" with a wide border of trailing passion flowers around all 4 sides.

There are 2 areas with noticeable marks (click on the photos opposite to view additional images showing the marks). One is within the passion flower border and the other (the worst) is in the central area where ivy leaves abound. I have laundered this cloth once and much of the storage dust and staining has gone. I'm sure that subsequent launderings will result in these marks fading further.

The handwritten laundry mark reads Skinner 2 1891. Around this time the majority of linen was numbered. This ensured it was used in strict rotation, and consequently wore at the same rate.

The cloth is in perfect condition - the blue transfer marks can still be seen beneath the embroidery, indicating that it has never been washed and it is certainly unused.
